Amber takes her role as an advocate very seriously and immerses herself in her cases. She possesses an attention to detail that clients greatly appreciate. Amber prides herself on taking the time to get to know her clients in order to truly understand their individual legal needs. Amber strives to provide excellent service to her clients by making herself consistently approachable and available. She believes a good working relationship between attorney and client is essential in a family law case. To her, communication is key because ultimately, how you and your attorney communicate with each other, will be reflected in the presentation of your case to others.
While growing up in the small central Texas town of Flatonia, Amber desired a profession in which she could help people in a positive way. She decided early on that being an attorney would allow her to accomplish this goal. Amber has been a vigorous and passionate advocate since graduating from law school. She began her career with the Smith County District Attorney’s Office in Tyler, Texas, handling a wide range of criminal matters and presenting cases to the jury.
Upon moving to Houston to be closer to family, Amber served as a domestic violence prosecutor for the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office, where she not only prosecuted individuals for their crimes against family members, but also represented the victims in petitioning the court for protective orders. Because of these experiences, Amber is able to approach high conflict cases involving intimate partner violence and or child abuse with specialized knowledge and sensitivity. Amber understands and is able to effectively advise her clients of the potential legal consequences in any family law matter when there are allegations of abuse, whether made by or against her clients.
Before joining the firm, Amber also practiced civil litigation, representing clients in complex matters in state and federal courts throughout Texas and the nation. She has worked with clients, including global manufacturers, on cases related to negligence, products liability, breach of contract, deceptive trade practices, premises liability and strict liability, the majority of which involved catastrophic injury or death.
Even though Amber has a passion for courtroom advocacy, she understands that every family law case is different, and in certain matters it is more appropriate to settle than it is to engage in litigation. Amber is an experienced negotiator and attempts to resolve matters amicably through negotiations prior to pursuing litigation. However, in matters that are litigated, Amber vigorously and effectively represents her clients’ interests. Having a diverse background helps Amber think creatively about issues such as divorce, child custody, marital property division and estate administration in terms of how they affect the people involved.
Amber is a graduate of Texas Tech University School of Law, where she received her juris doctorate. She completed her undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University in College Station, earning a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. Amber is admitted to practice law in Texas state courts and the United States District Courts in the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas, as well as the United States District Courts in Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Houston Bar Association.
